ART: "Portrait of a Boy", Harry, PG

Title: Portrait of a Boy
Rating: PG, for shirtlessness
Notes: This started as a sketch which I scanned via my OMGNEW Canoscan 8600 and painted in Photoshop. It's Harry, shirtless and without his glasses. I tried a new style (no outlines), a la [livejournal.com profile] anemonesque and I'm not sure how well I pulled it off, but I'm marginally proud of this piece. If you're interested in what textures I used, they are listed here, at my DeviantArt page. No references used so anatomy may be off. Concrit greatly appreciated.

You can see what plain old Harry looked like without all the textures over him here. I think I might even like it better that way.

ooooooh, puuuurdy.

...wow, I'm all intellectual and stuff tonight. *shakes head*

So no different from usual then, right?

[identity profile] selija.livejournal.com 2006-12-28 07:51 am (UTC)(link)
Absolutely gorgeous! I am in love with textures at the moment and you applied them here beautifully! I was planning to use text as a background for one of my pieces for fanart that I did, but I couldn't make it work the way you did here. Great work :)

[identity profile] zeitgeistic.livejournal.com 2006-12-28 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. I agonized for an hour over the textures, so I'm glad you like them. Which piece were you trying to do it on? Did you play with overlay and multiply?

[identity profile] selija.livejournal.com 2006-12-28 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I was trying to apply text on the piece I did for 'Redeem Me'. I tried all kinds of overlays and layer styles but couldn't blend them as nicely. I think it was hard because I wanted to keep the background white and 'worn' looking with just a hint of text from the story. How did you apply the texture? Did you cut and paste a 'ready' image and then adjusted layer style?

[identity profile] zeitgeistic.livejournal.com 2006-12-28 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Not uh. If you follow the link to DeviantArt at the top of the post and click on the last link of the post (the one that ends in "03"), you'll go straight to a copyable image of the text I used. It was already a bit rustic, but what you should do, I found, paste it as a new layer with the layer set as either multiply or overlay (depending on whether you want darker or lighter) and then lower the opacity so that it's closer to what you want. Additionally, you can double the layer with one set to multiply and one to overlay for a completely different affect.

[identity profile] selija.livejournal.com 2006-12-29 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Wow!those are some nice ready textures in that gallery ::will keep in mind:: thanks for the tip :)

(I play around with layer styles the same way too I guess I should have worked on my texture more to make it blend nicely with the background)

[identity profile] lush-mirror.livejournal.com 2006-12-28 10:18 am (UTC)(link)
He has a great body and you did the background awesomely.

[identity profile] zeitgeistic.livejournal.com 2006-12-28 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. :D

[identity profile] kileaiya.livejournal.com 2006-12-28 10:42 am (UTC)(link)
That is all kinds of wonderful!

[identity profile] zeitgeistic.livejournal.com 2006-12-28 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
And you are all kinds of wonderful for saying that. *blushes*

Mmmn, I love this; he looks almost fay with that vacant expression and sgkhsgkh lips + neck = teh yum. I love the background textures, especially the symbols in the top right hand corner; so very magical. ♥

[identity profile] zeitgeistic.livejournal.com 2006-12-28 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I like the symbols, too, but the more I think about it, I consider the original one without all the textures and feel like I should finish that one too. It seems so much more...me than this one does. I don't know. Thanks for the lovely comment and the friending, although you'll probably be disappointed in my journal. o.0 I mostly just bitch.

Oh wow, that's really gorgeous! Love the hair ^_^

[identity profile] zeitgeistic.livejournal.com 2006-12-28 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
THANKS! The hair is my favorite part. It looks better in the original one because you can see all the details (where I painstakingly multiplied one color of salmon over and over and over until it took on that blood red/black hue). :)

Pretty! I love the curly tendrils of hair.

The eyes are magnificent. Srsly. So expressive.

[identity profile] zeitgeistic.livejournal.com 2006-12-28 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Srsly. Thanks. Srsly.

[identity profile] anemonesque.livejournal.com 2006-12-28 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
That's gorgeous. I love the casual tilt of his head, the expression that says 'blank', 'fuck you', and so much more. His LIPS! XD And his chest. And his collarbones. And uh-- I'll steal him away now. And and and: (cannot forget this) the little twirly stubborn bits of his hair that stick up fantastically.

I think you pulled it off hella well. *LOVELOVELOVE*

I like it with the textures more - it's richer, somehow.

His neck looks so touchable. *reaches out*

[Um. Reposted because LJ is a whore.]

[identity profile] zeitgeistic.livejournal.com 2006-12-28 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL, thanks. I love your style. It's so fluid and soft, and I feel like a sidewalk blanket vendor trying to do the no outline thing. Glad you like it.

[identity profile] anemonesque.livejournal.com 2006-12-29 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
a sidewalk blanket vendor trying to do the no outline thing

Bullshit. That is all.

[identity profile] misconstrue.livejournal.com 2006-12-28 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
there are definitely merits to both versions. I feel like in this one it feels DaVinci-esque and the oranges really make his eyes pop. In the original he looks more vulnerable and . . . well, Harry? That being said, can't really pick a favorite although my DaVinci sketchbook weakness makes me favor this one. I love the expression and the hair is so whimsical!

[identity profile] zeitgeistic.livejournal.com 2006-12-28 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think the eyes may be too bright, myself. And then I totally failed with the eyelashes, methinks, but what can you do? I agree that the first one is more Harry-ish. The second, I think, romanticizes him more than even I wanted to do. But I'm inordinantly pleased that you like it, just the same. ♥

[identity profile] outofthisplace.livejournal.com 2006-12-28 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
fuck he's pretty! I think it looks amazing with the textures! wow!

Wow. That's really nice. I think I love his lips the most. The warm colors are awesome, as well.

[identity profile] zeitgeistic.livejournal.com 2006-12-29 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks, dear :) I want a boyfriend with lips like that. Or maybe even a one-night stand. o.O

God. I saved this for last. This is probably my favourite Harry. I love the texture, the blendings, the colours. I love all the details.

But what I love the most is him, his expression, his eyes, the way he's standing. He looks so perfect yet so alone. This is probably my favourite piece by you. I love it.

[identity profile] zeitgeistic.livejournal.com 2014-05-10 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow you were really on a roll today! What inspired this jaunt through fanart past?

And aww, thank you. This one is still one of my absolute faves, too. I have a thing for very curly hair pieces, apparently. Thank you so much for commenting on all my old art posts! <3<3<3
