I was scrolling through answers to this (there was an unfortunately large amount of idiotic people saying "Of course there's a cure, it's called ABSTINENCE! hur hur!) and someone posted about "Well there was that guy who was cured with a blood transfusion," so I looked it up, and wow. You guys. This guy is actually free of HIV virus, after having it since 1995.

The transfusion came from someone who had a gene mutation that made him HIV resistant; they think about 1% of Caucasians have this mutation, possibly from ancestors surviving the Plague. I have no idea what the percentage is for other races; they didn't say.

ALSO PLEASE, if you haven't already, sign the petition for 13-year-old Jordan Brown to get a fair trial as a juvenile and NOT an adult.

Prosecutors are trying to bribe him to admit guilt for a crime he maintains he didn't commit, and for which they have NO physical evidence against him; testimony from a 7-year-old girl who didn't even see him but "heard a bang" is all they've got. They are saying they won't try him as a juvenile unless he confesses. This is obviously a MAJOR affront to his Constitutional rights.

Please SIGN THE PETITION. There are only 11 more days for them to get another 25,000 signatures; please pass it on.

I remember reading something about stem cells working on one person too. I'd look it up but I'm on the iPod touch now and it's slow.

Yes, I think this was the same thing--marrow stem cells, I think. They say it's not a cure for all, but it's pretty exciting anyway!

Well what did you find from PubMed? :P I think it's really interesting that a gene could have mutated from the plague and can now ward off HIV. I hope they find a way to apply this more universally.

I signed the petition. It's definitely not right what's going on there.
Also,that is amazing news about the guy that was cured from AIDS. I didn't know that either,about the gene mutation.

Also, I watched the video about the boy's case and it seems incredibly weak. Regardless, it makes no sense that the judge ruled to try the boy as an adult because he has not confessed, and therefore has no remorse. What happened to guilty until proven innocent? That's just ridiculous. I have to wonder how that judge got his job, because he obviously doesn't understand the constitution.

The case is definitely weak, but that doesn't mean they won't get away with it. It makes me so sad to hear about things like this.
